The shop

Two technicians, one bay, and a rule about explaining things.

Bay & Beacon opened on Harborline Way in 2014, started by two technicians who were tired of watching people buy repairs they did not understand. The rule from the first week was simple: nobody pays for work they cannot have explained back to them.

One bay became six. The rule did not change. The shop is still owner-operated, and the person who writes your estimate is standing in the same building as the car.

Marisol Duarte

Lead technician · 14 years

Diagnostics and electrical. If a fault only appears when the car is cold and going uphill, this is whose problem it becomes.

Kwame Osei

Technician · 9 years

Brakes, steering, and suspension. Rebuilt the shop’s inspection routine so nothing gets signed off on a guess.

Danny Tran

Technician · 6 years

Tires, alignment, and state inspection. Runs the alignment rack and prints the before-and-after for every job.

Rosa Almeida

Service adviser

Estimates, scheduling, and the front desk. The person who calls you before anything is touched.

Inside the building

What the shop can actually do.

Equipment decides which repairs a shop can take on and which it has to send away. Here is what is on the floor.

The floor

  • Six lifts, one rated for light trucks and vans.
  • A four-wheel alignment rack with printed before-and-after readings.
  • A road-force balancer, which finds wheel vibration a plain balancer misses.
  • Refrigerant recovery and recharge for current and older systems.

The tools

  • Factory-level scan capability for domestic, Asian, and European vehicles.
  • Oscilloscope and circuit testing for faults a code reader cannot see.
  • Borescope and thermal camera for the awkward ones.
  • Every diagnosis documented with the reading that supports it.

While you wait

  • Waiting room with wifi, coffee, and a desk if you need to work.
  • Loaner cars for anything kept overnight, arranged when you book.
  • Shuttle to Maverick station on the Blue Line.
  • English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Haitian Creole spoken at the counter.

Every one of these was invited the same way: a single text message after the work was done, with no incentive attached and no filtering by expected rating.
